The Big Bend School was donated by the community of Big Bend. The school was moved to the Museum grounds in 2005.
The teacherage was home for the teacher. Besides being paragons of the school and community, which was apparently symbolized by the wearing of two petticoats, female teachers were expected to sweep their classroom at least once a day, scrub it with hot water and soap at least once a week, clean the blackboards at least once a day and start the fire by 7:00 a.m. so the room would be warm by 8:00 a.m. for the students arrival.
